A Report On The Chinese-english Translation Of Operation Manual Of Circulating Water System For Public Works Installations

With the accelerated development of the process of globalization and the concept of energy conservation deeply rooted in the people,the contract energy management projects are gradually carried out in the global scope of cooperation business.In order to achieve sustainable development and transform the economic engine,China strongly supports the development of the energy conservation industry and encourages domestic enterprises to seek international cooperation opportunities to gain advanced experience and expand overseas business at the same time.In the process of carrying out cross-border energy conservation service projects,the translation of technical documents under the cooperation business item is very important for the smooth implementation of cross-border cooperation.At present,since the development of western science and technology is obviously dominant,English-Chinese translation has become the mainstream of translation,while Chinese science and technology is in the development stage,Chinese-English translation is relatively small,which affects the reciprocal communication and interaction in science and technology between China and Western countries.It is in this context that the author chooses this project to carry out research,so as to make a beneficial exploration for the development of Chinese-English translation.This report involves the Chinese-English translation practice of the technical text of the contract energy management project.This paper focuses on the English translation strategy based on the characteristics of Chinese scientific and technological texts,that is,taking the technical terms,nominalization structure,complex long sentences and imperative sentences of current texts as the research objects,and exploring the translation principles and approaches of scientific and technological manuals.In this study,literature method,case analysis method and action method are used as research methods.Through case analysis,Chinese-English comparison and strategy application,the basic features of source language are found as follows.First,this text is full of terms,complex long sentences,imperative sentences and parallel structures.Second,the translation of scientific and technological texts must go through three stages of “analysis,transfer and reorganization”.According to the functional equivalence theory,“Content and form” should be paid equal attention.When both cannot be realized simultaneously,the content equivalence should be given priority.The target reader’s response to the target should match the original reader’s response to the original.To realize these principles and standards,literal,free and dynamic translation are the basic means of English translation of such texts.
