Language is the carrier of culture.Translation bridges the exchange of culture. In recent years, more and more Chinese classics have entered the world through translation, which has given the ancient culture new vitality.Meanwhile, ancient Chinese prose translation brings new opportunities and challenges to translators. This report is based on the author's participation in a translation practice project during the postgraduate study. The project was to translate into English“Study of the Book of Filial Piety” and other four similar articles, which are introductions to the study of the Book of Filial Piety throughout the ages. The articles contain quotations from various classical texts in this field. The meaning of these classical texts is abstruse and the sentence patterns are flexible, which requires a high level of the translator's ability.Based on this translation project lasting several weeks, the author deeply realizes that various appropriate strategies should be employed in accordance with the text and context, such as literal translation and free translation, annotation, addition, subtraction and expansion;Drawing on some translation theories, such as skopos theory and dynamic equivalence, also contributes to the improvement of the readability of the target texts. This report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is“Introduction”which briefly explains the value and significance of the translation of classical texts, and introduces the main research orientation of this report. The second chapter“Project Description”details the pre-translation preparation, translation strategies and post-translation proofreading;the third chapter “Case Analysis” elaborates with illustration various strategies employed in the process of translation and the achieved effects from the perspectives of consistency, accuracy and tactical thinking of translation;the fourth chapter“Conclusion” summarizes the author's experience in the translation project and the limitations of the version. It is hoped that this report can provide some ideas and references for translators who participate in the translation of ancient Chinese prose.
