A Study On Patent Translation Based On MTI Dissertations

In recent years,intellectual property rights have received increasing attention in the background of the knowledge economy and economic globalization.If an invention needs to be legally protected in a country,inventors must apply for patent rights in these countries and submit patent applications in languages concerned.Therefore,the translation work of patent document became prevailing.As the number of patent applications increases and the demand for patent translation continues to grow,academic researches on patent translation become essential.In order to explore the research status of Master of Translation and Interpreting(MTI)dissertations on patent translation,this thesis takes MTI dissertations on patent translation on CNKI from 2012-2019 as the research objects.By adopting content analysis,this paper mainly focuses on thesis type,theory application,problems identified in these dissertations and solutions suggested.After analysis,the author summarizes characteristics of these dissertations.In addition,the following suggestions are put forward on the foundation of discussions: MTI dissertations on patent translation should be more innovative;advisors and training units are supposed to take measures to develop students' ability to adopt theories and analyze problems.Based on these findings,it is hoped to provide new perspectives for MTI students to study patent translation and will be conducive to the cultivation of patent translators.
