Reading is a crucial way for students to get information in their daily life and learning process.It is also a necessary means to enrich their knowledge and enlarge their vocabulary.English reading plays an important role in senior high school English learning and is a very effective tool to test students' comprehensive language competence.However,many problems have appeared in recent English teaching,such as single teaching method,low classroom efficiency,students' lack of interest in learning English.As a result,students' reading ability can't be improved steadily.“6+1” teaching mode,put forward by Jingying Middle School,is an effective classroom teaching mode.In this teaching mode,teacher's enlightening “leading-in”,students' independent “thinking”,group “discussing”,whole class' s “showing”,teacher's proper and detailed “explaining”,final conclusive “checking” and effective “practicing” in self-study class are organically combined together.Up to now,there have been few studies on the application of this teaching mode to English reading teaching in senior high school,so the author strives to find out a new method of English reading teaching based on this.The research methods are questionnaire,experiment and interview.It deeply explores whether the classroom efficiency can be improved,whether the students' interest in English can be aroused,and whether their reading ability and comprehensive language competence can be enhanced by mainly using “6+1” teaching mode.This research took two parallel classes of Senior 3 in Liaocheng No.2 Middle School of Shandong Province as the experimental subject,122 students in total.And the research lasted for 16 weeks.At the beginning of the semester,the questionnaire survey was carried out in both experimental and control class to better understand the students' interest in English learning and subjective evaluation of their reading and pre-test their reading comprehension.“6+1” reading teaching mode was employed in the experimental class and the traditional reading teaching mode was employed in the control class.After the experiment,the post-test was carried out and the questionnaire survey was conducted again in both experimental and control class to find out the students' interest in English learning and subjective evaluation of their reading after 16-week's English learning.Meanwhile,another questionnaire survey was carried out in experimental class in order to know the students' attitude towards the “6+1” teaching mode implanted in English reading teaching.Soon afterwards,in order to better understand the students' attitude and evaluation towards “6+1” teaching mode,some students in the experimental class were chosen to have an interview.By comparing the results of pre-test and post-test,analyzing the results of questionnaires and collecting contents of the interview,the study concludes that the application of “6+1” teaching mode to English reading teaching can increase students' interest and confidence in learning English and improve the student's reading ability.
