A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Elastic Volume Service User Guide

With the acceleration of globalization and the rapid development of China's economy,a growing number of Chinese enterprises have developed various products and sold them to overseas markets.The proliferation of high-tech products has stimulated a huge demand for the translation of product user guides.The translation quality of user guides has a great influence on user experience,product markets and corporate images.This report is based on the author's translation practice of Huawei's EVS user guide.The problems encountered in translation are as follows:(1)inaccurate translation of verbs;(2)illogical translation of sentences;(3)inappropriate translation of redundant information;(4)literal translation of fuzzy and incorrect information of the source text.According to Newmark's text typology,the user guide has the informative function and translators should adopt communicative translation.Under the guidance of text typology and communicative translation,this report proposes solutions to the above problems.First of all,for the inaccurate translation of verbs,the author uses verification and parallel corpus to accurately grasp the meaning of verbs.Secondly,for the problem of illogical sentences,the author makes the hidden logic of the source text clear by adding necessary words and dividing sentences.Then for the problem of translation redundancy,the author adopts omission and reorganization to make the translation clear and concise.Finally,the author adopts supplement to make the source information clear and uses correction to correct the erroneous information in the source text to make the translation accurate.This report makes a preliminary study on the translation of user guides,hoping to provide some reference for similar translation practice.
