In the 1920 s,the Chinese film industry transitioned from the germination period to the development period in the context of political innovation, economic development, the rise of consumer entertainment culture, and the return of a large number of international students.Foreign films have seized the Chinese market with their strong and excellent distribution, forcing the Chinese film industry to survive in the cracks. With the entry of a large number of national capitals, film companies have sprung up like mushrooms, bringing prosperity and development of the production industry. However,it was faced with an embarrassing situation that there were no cinemas to screen them in,so the establishment of its own distribution screening network became a top priority. This paper takes the Chinese film distribution in the 1920 s as the research object. This paper tries to sort out and describe the distribution situation and strategies of foreign films in the Chinese market and domestic films in the domestic and overseas markets in the 1920 s by referring to a large number of newspapers, periodicals and books of the 1920 s.The paper first analyzes the reasons why the Chinese film industry is booming in the 1920 s from the four aspects of politics, economy, culture and talents.Second, since the 1920 s,the distribution of foreign films in the Chinese market, analysis the foreign film companies adopting entrusted manager agent issued by the company,to open the issuer, film producers buy distribution way, make foreign films are popular in China, the manager of the company and the domestic film is a huge influx of foreign film main hand.Thirdly, faced with the situation that foreign films seize the domestic film market,Chinese film companies begin to promote domestic films at home and abroad through learning and referring to the distribution methods of foreign films. In the domestic issuance market,China's first joint-issued United Film Exchange adopted Shanghai-based divergent distribution, further expanding the domestic film market in North China,Southwest China and Northeast China;South Asia Film Company,a film manager company based in Guangdong.Targeting the South China region for targeted distribution;Whawei Trading Company,a film trading company established on the basis of United Film Exchange, mainly focuses on the mainland market. Most of the domestically produced films are sold to the mainland through it,making it the home base of the Chinese film industry. At this point, the domestic formation of a multi-faceted distribution pattern. In the overseas market,Nanyang, which is close to China,is the first stop for overseas distribution.Nanyang became a big market for domestically produced films in the 1920 s by cooperating with Nanyang's film companies, cooperating with Nanyang filmmakers, and establishing a joint venture to promote distribution. In addition, the company will directly explore the US,Europe,Japan, and South American markets by means of direct-to-carry films, overseas exchange screenings,film-makers' purchases, foreign sales offices, and overseas sales promoters. In the 1920 s,under the turbulent political background,in the context of Hollywood's strong bullying market, with the excellent distribution in the Nanyang market and the further development of the domestic market, the Chinese film industry grew stubbornly in the cracks, and laid the foundation for the prosperity of the film industry in the 1930 s.In the 1920 s,the successful distribution of Chinese films in the domestic and overseas markets and the establishment of a distribution screening network basically established the industrial model of “production-distribution-screening”,which enabled the Chinese film industry to take shape. The successful distribution of Chinese films in the Nanyang market and the exploration of distribution in overseas markets such as Japan,Europe,America and South America not only spread Chinese movies but also spread Chinese traditional culture, and still play an active role in the spread of Chinese films and traditional culture abroad today.Believe that Chinese films will have a place in the global market one day.
