Against the background that China is moving forward and becoming more open to the outside world,Chinese people are more aware of the importance of common development and enhanced cooperation in various fields. Thus China offers to host many seminars on different themes, especially for developing countries to have in-depth communications and exchanges so as to strive toward a brighter future together. What's more, serving as a bridge between China and the other countries, those events are of great significance to narrow the development gap between developed and developing countries. The “2018 Seminar on Border Security Cooperation for ASEAN Region” was hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, organized by Yunnan International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges, and co-organized by Yunnan Police Officer Academy. As a platform for the participants to come to China to see for themselves what China is and how it develops, this seminar aims to share experience in border security with participants from ASEAN countries and enhance cooperation in this field. This report selects the interpreting activities of one day from the agenda of the seminar due to the typical features of interpreting. The two activities, lecture in the morning and training in the afternoon, showcase different requirements for interpreting and principles and skills applied in the process, which enable the interpreter to have a closer look at and a deeper understanding of the interpreting work. Moreover, the whole seminar is a rare opportunity for the interpreter to learn and practice at the same time, for the participants of the seminar were very supportive and inclusive. The Cooperative Principle was put forward by American linguist Herbert Paul Grice in1967 for successful and efficient conversation.Under this general principle, there are four maxims,i.e.maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner.Coming from linguistic scope though,it can also be applied in interpreting as a guideline to make the delivery much more fluent and acceptable. In the interpreting, however, the principle and the four maxims cannot be kept all the way,so sometimes some skills shall be applied for the smooth going of the process. The report consists of five chapters.Chapter one is the transcripts of source language and interpretation.Chapter two Description of the Interpreting Task introduces the content, background, significance, requirements and expected results of the interpretation task.Chapter three is Interpreting Process, which is divided into the preparation of and reflection and feedback after interpretation.Case Studies in Chapter four illustrate the application of the Cooperative Principle in interpreting and the problems and coping skills encountered and applied in the process. The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the report, namely the experience and knowledge gained by the interpreter from this interpretation task and the inspiration for future interpretation study and work.
