A Practice Report On Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting Of The Breast Cancer Conference From The Perspective Of The Cooperative Principle

As a common and chronic disease that seriously threatens human life,cancer has gradually become one of the main causes of human death in present world.While in modern medicine,the prevention of cancer is far more important than the treatment.In medical conferences,the simultaneous interpreting of cancer conferences plays an important role in transmitting information in a timely manner.Breast cancer is one of the most common chronic diseases in women.It seriously threatens female’s health and lives in modern life,and it is also one of the most complicated diseases in medical treatment.Therefore,taking the 2018 International Highly Prevalent Cancer Forum as the background,the author selects the Breast Cancer Conference to perform simulated simultaneous interpreting,and the materials of this interpreting task(source language)mainly revolves into medical English.Medical English belongs to the field of English for science and technology.Furthermore,medical interpreting is a form of communication in medical information exchange,and the interpreter plays an important role in the communication.However,simultaneous interpreting is a common interpreting method in international conferences,making the audience obtain information simultaneously,in order to achieve the purpose of communication and to save time of conferences.However,just like conversational communication,both speakers and the audiences of cancer conferences achieve their communicative goals through interpreters’ interpretation,so the interpreters also abides by Grice’s cooperative principle.Grice’s cooperative principle guides people’s communication,including communication in conference interpreting activities.The author of this report uses Grice’s theory to analyze simultaneous interpreting activities,and analyze the characteristics and difficulties of the conference interpreting to find out the strategies and methods of medical interpreting.There are many professional vocabularies in medical interpreting,which are very difficult to interpret.The interpreter should abide by the cooperative principle during interpreting,taking the change of context into account.In the report,by choosing some cases from the simulated simultaneous interpreting,the author analyzes errors and problems that the interpreter made during interpreting by adopting Grice’s theory of cooperative principle.The author also explores some methods and interpreting strategies that are helpful for medical interpreting.The report is divided into five parts.The first part describes the background of the interpreting task.The second part is a detailed description of the process of the interpreting task,including the preparation process of the interpreter,the process of interpreting,and the errors and problems of the interpreter.The third part is the introduction and analysis of the cooperative principle.The fourth part is case analysis.The fifth part is self-reflection on the interpreting task and suggestions for future studies and interpretation.
