English writing plays an indispensable role in English teaching and learning in senior high schools.The English Curriculum Standard of Senior High School(2003)indicated that students should be able to write essays of common genres and the latest English Curriculum Standard of Senior High School(2017)also mentioned the corresponding requirements to students.However,students? writing feedback has been mainly from teachers,yet with the development of information technology,it is more popular with the man-made intelligence feedback.This thesis mainly includes related concepts and functions of feedback and related research on feedback at home and abroad,and then conducts comparative experiment.It focuses on the effect of senior high school students? writing scores,attitudes and the feedback focuses from the teacher and Pigai.org respectively,aiming at discussing the feasibility of the application of Pigai.org and finding out the most suitable feedback for the improvement of writing proficiency for senior high school students.The research questions to be answered in this thesis are listed as follows:1.What feedback is more effective for the improvement of students? writing scores?2.What are the main differences about feedback focuses from the teacher and Pigai.org?3.What are students? attitudes and preference toward different feedback?The participants of this thesis were students of Grade One in Class A and Class B at one senior high school from Shanxi province and one experienced English teacher.Before the experiment,writing for pre-test was carried out and its results showed that there was no noticeable difference in writing performance of these two classes,so they could be selected as research subjects.In this experiment,Class A received teacher feedback while Class B received Pigai.org feedback.One semester later,two classes simultaneously carried out the post-test and results showed that there was the significant difference of students? scores.Besides,this thesis took examples and analyzed feedback focuses by adopting the latest 5 compositions of each student,namely 405,from the perspectives of vocabulary,grammar,content and structure.Before and after the experiment,the same questionnaire was handed out to compare students? attitudes toward different feedback;meanwhile,the interview was conducted to show students? opinions on advantages and disadvantages of the aforementioned feedback.The experimental results showed that teacher feedback had greater impact on students? writing in terms of content and global organization compared with Pigai.org feedback,however,students from Class B made even greater progress in the aspect of vocabulary than those from Class A.It was caused by different feedback focuses of the above-mentioned feedback.Moreover,from the questionnaire and interview,the conclusion was drawn that both of these two types of feedback have advantages and disadvantages,but they were both accepted by students;Pigai.org feedback was more helpful to improve students? writing interest,self-confidence and relieve writing anxiety,while teacher feedback was conducive to compositions revision for students.Based on the results of this thesis,Pigai.org is able to be applied into writing feedback and it will be better if it combines with teacher feedback.
