Difficulties And Strategies In Chinese-Russian Consecutive Interpretation Of Culture-Loaded Words In Political Speeches

Cultural communication is an important part of international communication,and helping different cultures and countries better understand each other's customs and ways of thinking is the bridge to world peace.This is of utmost importance for Russia and China,two large strategically collaborative partner countries.This study focuses on Chinese-Russian consecutive interpretation of culture-loaded words – the elements that reflect the unique cultural background of one nation and that often pose a great challenge for interpreters.Accurate and appropriate interpretation of these words not only conveys a better understanding of Chinese society and culture by foreign communities,but also plays an important role in promoting China's foreign policy and developing good diplomatic relations.The author's case research is based on the mock conference of President Xi's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2019.The study analyses the causes of poor interpretation performance – namely,the lack of background knowledge,the wrong choice of interpretation strategy,and a time pressure factor,and provides respective countermeasures.To solve one of the most serious issues that influence the quality of culture-loaded words' interpretation – the wrong interpretation strategy choice – the author provided guidance for the interpretation of culture-loaded words according to their type.
