A Study On Terminology Bank Construction And Application Of The Key Terms For Sino-foreign Maritime Cultural Exchanges

The construction of a key terminology bank for the Sino-foreign maritime cultural exchanges is a necessary step benefiting the implementation of the "Belt and Road Initiative"and the construction of a powerful maritime nation.In the process of studying maritime-related literature,the author realizes that the number of historical documents of Sino-foreign maritime cultural exchanges is huge with diversified contents,thus the retrieval of terms is difficult.Therefore it is quite necessary to construct a Chinese-English terminology bank of Sino-foreign maritime cultural exchanges to facilitate relevant academic studies by scholars in this area of research.On the basis of related literature review,the author firstly investigates the current research status of term definition,term recognition and term naming,and analyzes the need for constructing a terminology bank for Sino-foreign maritime cultural exchanges.Taking the book The Chinese Maritime Communications with Foreign Countries from Antiquity to the Early Qing Dynasty as the research data,the author puts the key terms into four categories,including personal names,geographic names,historical events and others.Secondly,the author does the annotations and English translation of the key terms thereof,and successfully constructs the Chinese-English terminology bank for Sino-foreign maritime cultural exchanges.Finally,the author studies the potential target audience and application areas of the terminology bank.It is found that the key terms for Sino-foreign maritime cultural exchanges,which are to play an important role in the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,can be used by many people concerned who work in various areas.It is hoped that the present study is conducive to the academic studies on China's Maritime Silk Road construction both theoretically and practically.
