Currently oil has become an indispensable and important resource for people's production and living,as well as a crucial strategic resource for the economic and political development of various countries. The shortage of oil resources is now increasingly becoming a weak point that hinders China's development.Based on this, the search for clean energy, namely shale energy, has become an important energy strategy for China to develop clean energy. At the same time,American shale revolution has provided beneficial experience for the rest of the world, and translations concerning shale energy also help researchers related to shale energy know more about the developments of the shale energy revolution. The source text chosen for this translation practice is from chapter 1 to chapter 3 of the book "American Shale Energy and the Global Economy:Business and Geopolitical Implications of the Fracking Revolution" written by Andrew R.Thomas.The total number of words selected in English is 16,581.The selected chapters focus on the development course of the American shale energy revolution and its impact on the global economy and geopolitics. This translation report is composed of five parts. The first part briefly introduces the background, significance and theoretical foundation of the translation project. Then the translator describes the contents of the original text and introduces the author, and describes the three processes of pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation in detail.Under the guidance of the three rules of Skopostheorie—skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, the translator applies suitable translation techniques including amplification, conversion, substitution, omission and inversion to cope with long and complex sentences and other difficult parts encountered in this translation activity, which is also the key point of this translation report. The problems to be solved in translation as well as the experiences and lessons gained from the translation process are described in the conclusion part.Through this translation practice, the translator has not only applied the translation practical skills learned over the graduate period to this translation practice, but also used the translation methods and theoretical knowledge that she has studied to improve her translation ability. On the other hand, the translator has deepened her understanding of shale energy via this translation, and she hopes that the translated text can offer some references to researchers, teachers and students engaged in shale energy researches.
