With the increasing of China’s comprehensive national strength and international status,China’s engineering scientific and technological reports have gradually received the attention of the international community and played an indispensable role for understanding China’s national conditions.In order to promote the communication and exchange between the Chinese and foreign joint ventures in engineering projects,it is necessary to summarize the translation skills of such texts and the problems encountered in translation.Therefore,this report summarizes the translation process and translation behavior of the Feasibility Report of Shaoyang Kitchen Waste Resource Utilization and Harmless Treatment Project,aiming at promoting international exchanges and propagandizing the efforts of Chinese citizens made in promoting the development of public catering safety in terms of interpreting relevant backgrounds and measures.Aiming at better understand the future development priorities and development direction of China’s public catering security,and thus to enhance the international visibility and influence of China’s public catering security.This translation practice is based on the Chinese-English translation text of selection from the material of Feasibility Report of Shaoyang Kitchen Waste Resource Utilization and Harmless Treatment Project.After reading and understanding the original text,the original text is defined as an engineering report.By comparing the drafted translation with the modified translation,the author finds that Functional Equivalence Theory has actual guiding effects on the engineering text because the modified translation is more accurate,objective and formal.After indicating the significance of applying Functional Equivalence Theory in Chinese engineering translation into English,focusing on the reader’s reception and taking Feasibility Report of Shaoyang Kitchen Waste Resource Utilization and Harmless Treatment Project as an example,this thesis will analyze features of engineering texts from vocabularies,sentences and paragraphs so as to provide translation methods about this kind of text;such as literal translation,addition,transformation,omission and so on.By comparing translation examples,the thesis comes to the conclusion that under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,the quality of Chinese engineering texts’ translation into English can be effectively improved.The author deepens the understanding of engineering document through this translation practice,which will give valuable experience in translating similar documents to the author in future.Based on the translation practice,the author analyzes the difficulties in engineering text translation and summarizes some strategies from perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory in this report.Meanwhile,the author hopes that other translators who will translate engineering documents in the future and draw lessons from this practice report. |
