With the globalization of economic development and market-oriented operation,the financial reform and opening-up of China is increasing to a considerable extent,which indicates that the financial industry in China shall be much more in line with intermational standards and participate in international cooperation and competition more actively.Accordingly,the translation of financial English texts into Chinese is becoming increasingly important.Financial English is one kind of professional English covering financial activities such as banking,investment,speculation,credit,securities,international settlement,and the like.In the practice of translating financial English into Chinese,many translators are practitioners in the financial industry rather than professional translators;therefore,most of them care only about the results of translation,whereas they pay little attention to the reflection upon,summary of,and discussion about the strategies and techniques of translation between English and Chinese and particularly ignore the in-depth discussion on the stylistic features and translation strategies of different branches of financial English.Financial English,with a highly professional language style,is relatively difficult to be translated into Chinese.The translators need to overcome many difficulties in the process of translation,such as a large number of professional terms,various proper nouns,and numerous long and difficult sentences.The fifteen articles involved in this paper are respectively selected from Financial Times,New York Times,Wall Street Journal and other major English newspapers and periodicals,and the contents cover varieties of subfields of finance,including financial disaster,financial system,chain blocks,fiduciary,banking,investment,speculation,virtual currency,interest rate,stocks,bonds,and so on.This paper focuses on the key points and difficulties in terms of lexical colors,rhetorical devices,long and difficult sentences,professional terms,and allusions in financial English.In the process of translation,effective handling of these key points and difficulties requires certain translation strategies,namely domestication and foreignization,as well as translation methods,such as free translation,imitation translation,alteration translation,creative translation,transliteration,and first and foremost,the application of parallel texts in the translation of financial English.
