A Report On The Translation Of Local Chronicles Of China(Excerpts)

As the local documents and regional comprehensive materials of China,local chronicles are not only a valuable spiritual wealth for China,but also for the whole world.Local chronicles record the political,economic,cultural and other details of a certain region in a certain period,which truly and objectively reflect the natural geography,human life,political system,economic development and social conditions of the region.There are two reasons why this translation report chooses the Local Chronicles of China as the translation object.Firstly,the book introduces China's geographical situation,historical development,tourist attractions,major events,and possesses the linguistic features of local chronicles.It is simple in writing and easy to understand.Secondly,the vocabulary of the book is characterized by diversity and complexity,making it a good material to be translated and studied.This paper also has some limitations and shortcomings.Firstly,in the process of translation,the translator does not use advanced and professional translation software,but uses paper dictionaries,Baidu Translation and other online translation dictionaries,so the translation of professional words and long sentences in the text is not perfect.Secondly,due to the epidemic,the translator is unable to conduct field investigation and in-depth exploration,and the mastery of various background information in the text is not accurate enough.Therefore,the translation can only be based on her own understanding and online data query,which leads to the inadequacy of the accuracy and the overall structure of the translation.Thirdly,due to the limited level of the translator herself,the inadequate understanding of the source language and the insufficient mastery of the target language,the logical structure and case studies of the thesis are not reasonable enough,and there are also grammatical errors in some sentences.The author of the report hopes to improve the translation skills of the local chronicles and the translation competence of various materials through specific translation practice,and also hopes to provide some insights for translators engaged in related work.
