This translation report is written on the basis of the translation practice of Chapter Nine ‘Global Flows and Intercultural Communication' of Rona Tamiko Halualani's book Intercultural Communication---A Critical Perspective.Chapter Nine has its own academic significance and practical value. It focuses on exploring the evolution of intercultural communication modes in an age of globalized flows,as well as the impact of globalization on cultural groups and intercultural communication from the perspective of critical intercultural communication,so as to help readers gain a comprehensive understanding of the changes resulted by globalization and the ever-changing global environment. The translation report is composed of four parts: The first part is the description of the translation task. The author mainly explains the source of the translation material, the relevant background knowledge of the author and the book,as well as the significance of the topic under study,The second part is a description of the translation process.Based on the linguistic characteristics of informative text, which emphasizes authenticity and objectivity, the author chooses literal translation as the main translation method and explains the whole process of translation from pre-translation preparation to post-translation editing and revision from multiple perspectives. The third part is case analysis, which is the core part of this report. It mainly selects representative cases from three dimensions: vocabulary, syntax and discourse. Then the author specifically explains and analyzes main problems encountered in doing this translation: for instance, the translation of terminology, analysis of the connotations of some words, the translation of clauses and compound sentences,as well as the cohesion and coherence on the textual level.Following that, the author also discusses the adopted translation theories and translation techniques, for example, the conversion, sentence division, inserting, recasting and so on.Thefourth part summarizes this translation practice, and based on the experience of doing this translation practice, the author makes a comprehensive summary of the lessons that have learned right out of the translation process.Through this translation practice, the author has gained a deeper understanding of the translation discipline and the role of the translator, and has achieved a deeper understanding of intercultural communication as well The lessons learned in this practical experience will also lay a solid theoretical and practical foundation for the author's future translation work and intercultural communication activities.
