As a part of Chinese traditional culture,the culture of ethnic minorities starts to get more attention in recent years.However,the living space available for it narrows under the shocks of popular culture and natural condition,so the culture of ethnic minorities deserves more protection.After the Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008,the particular Qiang culture from Sichuan Province has been enormously influenced,therefore the inheritance and protection for it allows of no delay.The literary works of a nationality intuitively represents its culture.Thus,the translation and promotion of literature can be in great beneficial to carry forward and spread the culture of ethnic minorities.The Story of Great Qiang is a collection of Qiang's historical and cultural stories,the translation of which can attract more foreign readers to catch sight of and understand unique local cultural characteristics of China.It is also meaningful that the mutual exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures can also better promote the development of national culture.Under the Skopos Theory of Hans J.Vermeer,this project is the translation on excerpts of The Story of Great Qiang,with more than 30,000 words.The source text is composed by several cultural stories of Qiang Minority.The translation practice is comprised of six parts,which are introduction,process of translation,guiding theory for the project,case studies,project assessment and conclusion.The key and difficult points of this project are on the comprehension of the source text and the expressions imbued with Chinese traditional culture character,which cannot match equivalent wording in English.As a result,the translator analyzed from the two aspects of words and sentences,and used the methods of annotated literal translation,liberal translation,additions,omissions,conversions and combinations to perform translation practice according to the three rules of Skopos Theory,which are skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule.
