This is a practical report on Chinese-English translation of the source text that includes the fourth and the fifth chapters of the book named The Story of Great Qiang.Commissioned by her supervisor,the author of the report participated in the translation project.This project aims to transmit Chinese culture to the world.Translating ethnic minority culture introduction materials is of great significance in the current society that strengthens domestic cultural publicity and promotes the initiative of“cultural going global”.The source material covers a large number of stories about Qiang culture,helping readers understand Chinese ethnic minority culture.The author of this report organically unified the translation theory and translation practice,and successfully completed this project under the guidance of the theory.The translator used Skopos Theory as the guiding theory to fulfill the translation practice with adopting proper translation strategies and using a variety of translation methods and techniques like addition,omission,literal translation to assist her to make the translation conform to the reading habits of target readers.Based on the translation practice,the author states the project introduction,source text analysis,translation process,the translation case study under the guidance of skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,and translation assessment.This report systematically summarizes the whole translation process from the perspective of Skopos Theory.After analysis,it is proved that Skopos Theory is a proper theory to guide translators to do Chinese-English literary translation.
