Heterotopias derives from Michel Foucault's space theory of heterotopias.Some of the spaces in Kazuo Ishiguro's novels are heterogeneous,which are different from ordinary spaces but not illusory.They are real in the text,also connect to our current living space,like a mirror reflecting the problems of modern life.This paper takes heterotopias in Kazuo Ishigano's novel as the study object,using the theory of Foucault's heterotopias to analyze the heterogeneous space and deeply understand the significance of the author's creation of heterotopias.They reflect the various living difficulties of modern people,so as to wake up those who are addicted to the face of the world,rethink the abyss of current and future life,and make changes.The introduction introduces the writer Kazuo Ishiguo,his works,and the study review.It also expounds the reasons for choosing heterotopias in his novels as study object,the content of heterotopias,then puts forward the study purpose and significance.This paper has three chapters:Chapter One starts from the power space,one of the manifestations of heterotopias in Kazuo Ishiguro's novels,and respectively introduces the two forms of heterotopias of power:the permeable heterotopia of power and the open-disguised heterotopia of power.It analyzes the open and closed features of them and explains the significance of them.Both of them reveal the operation of power in moderm space,as well as the general characteristics of concealment and exclusiveness.They present the ubiquitous of power in modern space.Chapter Two starts with the cultural space,which is the second manifestation of heterotopias in Kazuo Ishiguro's novels.It introduces the cultural heterotopia with functional changes that operating in different ways in different periods.They reflects the invasion of multiculturalism,the establishment of cultural colonization of powerful nations,the prevalence of symbolic fetism,and the arrival of consumerist society under the process of globalization.It also introduces the cultural heterotopias with juxtaposition of multiple places that reconstruct the world and indicates the world culture is developing towards the low context.Chapter Three starts with the spiritual space,which is third manifestation of heterotopias Kazuo Ishiguro's novels.It introduces the three forms spiritual heterotopias respectively from family,war and modern science and technology,that cause severe psychological trauma to people,also analyzes their features of linear time broken,illusions manufacture,reality compensation and wishes expression.Excessive pursuit of high technology has also led to the degeneration of the human spirit,moral and ethical degradation.The conclusion summarizes the significance of construction of heterotopias the above mentioned in Kazuo Ishiguro's novels.In addition,he created the characters like ship heterotopias to encourage people to overcome difficulties and look optimistically into the future.
