The source text was chosen from Cormac McCarthy's semi-autobiography,Suttree.Tennessee is destroyed and then becomes a place of wilderness on account of the rapid urbanization in the United States. However, the wilderness is not a concept of primitive world, but a deserted place polluted by industrialization and urbanization.People living here have become the victims of urbanization, wandering and struggling in the city. Two chapters of this novel are selected as the source text for translation practice. The author adopts the translator's subjectivity as theoretical guidance, then she should respect the source text and give her subjective initiative to achieve her translation goal. The translation subjectivity is embodied in all stages of the translation process, including selecting source text, adopting translation methods and strategies, and representing the language style and aesthetic value of the source text.Taking the translator's subjectivity as theoretical guidance, this report aims to discuss the translation methods and techniques and the ways of wilderness representation. To be exact, translation strategies as literal translation and liberal translation are discussed and adopted in the translation, and techniques such as amplification, conversion, division and omission, are taken, trying to present the language style and aesthetic values esp.in the wilderness representation of McCarthy's novel. At last, the report summarizes the process of the translation and its limitation, hoping to guide translation work in the future.
