The international dissemination of Chinese excellent classics is of great significance. As translators,it is our duty to introduce Chinese classical culture to the world through translation,so as to inherit and carry forward Chinese traditional culture. As the carrier of Chinese culture,Chinese classics have always played an important role in inheriting and carrying forward Chinese culture. The translation and dissemination of those classic works are closely related to the improvement of Chinese cultural soft power and the promotion of China's international influence.Against this backdrop, the author chose Stories of the Three-Character Sutra as the original text of this translation report, hoping to contribute to the spread of excellent Chinese culture.Stories of the Three-Character Sutra contains 50 stories about famous or great people in Chinese history that appeared in the classic of The Three-Character Sutra. The author translated the first 13 stories and many difficulties were encountered, including the translation of four-character phrases,culture-loaded terms and run-on sentences. In this report, the author analyzes and discusses how the author solved the above translation problems with different strategies(shift, omission, free translation and addition)under the guidance of Adaptation Theory, and how she applied contextual correlates of adaptability(adaptation to physical world, social world, and mental world)and structural objects of adaptability(adaptation at lexical level and syntactic level)to her translation. The adaptations make up the cultural gaps and the differences between the source language and the target language at different levels and meet the demands of communication. The author hopes that this translation report can provide some suggestions for translators doing Chinese classics translation and scholars studying the translation of Chinese traditional cultural works.
