A Study On The Concept Of Faith In Zuo Zhuan And Guoyu

The long-standing concept of faith constitutes an important part of traditional Chinese ideology,and it still plays an active role in the core values of society until today.Documents from Pre-Qin Period help to explore the origin,evolution and development of faith.In the Spring and Autumn Period,the concept of "faith"developed into prosperity.Royal authority declined but the connection between the vassal states increased,assembly activities accompanied by increasing dishonesty behaviors gave birth to principle of good faith.People's different understandings and attitudes towards faith also indicate the fierce collision of old and new ideas under the background of the propriety disintegration.Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu are important documents of the Spring and Autumn Period,and contain a wealth of information on the concept of faith.Starting with the word "Xin" recorded in Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu,to explore the expression and distinctive features of good faith in the Spring and Autumn Period,which is of great value to study the significance of the history of ideology.There are four chapters in this thesis,which respectively discuss the concept of faith in Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu from different perspectives.The introduction part defines the research objects in addition to clarifying the research status,research ideas and methods.The word "Xin" recorded in Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu which carries the meaning of covenant,honesty and faithfulness becomes the key of investigation.Chapter one traces the origin of the concept of faith through the interpretation of faith in several representative documents from the pre-Qin period.The high frequency of the word "Xin" in the literature shows the development of good faith during this time,which is closely related to the background of the Spring and Autumn Period.Chapter two focuses on the rich connotation of the concept of faith contained in Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu and its manifestations in different contexts,such as religious sacrifices,diplomatic covenants,and interpersonal relationships,showing that the concept of faith has penetrated into all aspects of life and had a profound impact on the thought of the Spring and Autumn Period.Chapter three explores the characteristics of the concept of faith in Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu from the perspective of time and space.On the one hand,the object of faith changed from God to man and the integrity values also changed.On the other hand,the spatial distribution shows a faith culture that basically coincides with the ritual culture,which suggests that the development of the concept of faith was carried out under the inheritance and radiation of the ritual culture.Chapter four is centered on Confucius' thoughts in The Analects of Confucius,studying Confucius' understanding of the concept of faith,as well as exploring the further development of faith after the Spring and Autumn Period,that is,the trend of generalization and popularization.The concept of faith contained in Zuo Zhuan and Guoyu is of great significance to the establishment of core values and the construction of spiritual civilization nowadays.Principle of Good Faith is time-honored,and it is worthy of being inherited,carried forward,and developed by future generations.
