Language is the carrier of culture,and learning English will certainly learn the culture of this language.The English Standards for General Senior High Schools promulgated in 2018 listed cultural awareness as one of the key competency of English subjects,taking cultural awareness of students as one of the goals of English courses.The presentation of cultural awareness reflects the requirements of social development for future English learners,and also puts forward new qualitative requirements for English education in China,which plays an irreplaceable role in students' future development and lifelong learning.This study takes 155 high school students and 62 teachers in Tongliao City as research objects,and uses questionnaires,classroom observations,and interviews to explore the current status of cultural awareness.The factors affecting the cultivation of cultural awareness of high school students in Tongliao area are also analyzed.Finally,some suggestions are made on how to better cultivate students 'cultural awareness meeting the requirements of students' cultural awareness in the high school English curriculum standards.Specifically study the following three issues:(1)What is the status quo of the cultural awareness of high school students in Tongliao?(2)What are the reasons for the problems in the cultivation of cultural awareness of high school students in Tongliao?(3)What are the ways to cultivate the cultural awareness of high school students in Tongliao? That is,how to solve the problems in the process of cultivating the cultural awareness of senior high school students?The results show that although the teachers and students of senior high schools in Tongliao area realize the importance of cultural awareness to English learning,the current situation of cultivating students' awareness is still unsatisfactory,due to the influence of the external educational environment and other factors.These problems exist in teachers' insufficient development of teaching materials,single training and evaluation methods,and lack of time.According to the problems existing in the process of cultivating students' cultural awareness,the author gives suggestions to solve the problems from the perspectives of students,teachers,schools and educational authorities separately.It is hoped to provide some references for education departments,schools and senior high school English teachers to effectively cultivate students' cultural awareness.
