Strategies For Translating Humor Discourses As In Scientific Fiction Ratner's Star

Humor is an expression form of language with unique linguistic features: implicit,concise,revealing the wisdom of the author.And it is also where the essence of language lies.Humor can make a literary work permanently attractive so that the literary work is worth reading repeatedly.Based on the translation cases,the translator classified the humorous language in the original text and analysed the corresponding translation strategies and techniques.The humor in literary works makes the works distinctive and valuable for reading.However,humor in different languages and cultures is expressed in different ways,which brings great challenges for the translator to convey the humorous effect.The author chose chapters 3,4 and 5 of Ratner's Star as the research object,divided the humorous description into linguistic humor,universal humor and cultural humor and tried to find out the corresponding translation strategies for different types of humor.For linguistic humor,the translator adopted rewriting and free translation strategies to achieve the humorous effect.For universal humor,the translator used literal translation and free translation to make the target language readers get the same sense of humor as the source language readers.For cultural humor,the translator chose annotation and rewriting strategies to clear away the barriers brought by different cultures and make it easier for readers to find laughing points.Whatever kind of translation method is adopted,the translator strived to make the target language readers feel the humor of the original text.The expressions of humor and satire art in the novel explored the real critical value and social transformation value of the works.The social status of the United States at that time is comprehensively and profoundly understood.
