Translation Strategies To Improve User Experience Of Military/Historical Game

Nowadays,game localization has become a rising industry in China.However,relevant studies on game localization are still insufficient.Based on the study of game localization program of Company of Heroes 2,this paper discusses how to improve the user experience of translated version of the game under time pressure and various difficulties,including dealing with tags or formats,different types of the texts,terminologies or acronyms,and the information that is erroneous or improper.This paper argues that when translating the texts of epic military/historical games under time pressure,translators,apart from being familiar with the background information of the game,can adopt the following strategies: 1)paying meticulous attention to tags,labels,formats and hints;2)providing detailed explanation for certain terminologies or acronyms to help users better understand the game;3)correcting the erroneous information in the original texts;4)adjusting and changing the information that is incompatible with users' ideological beliefs or cultural background;and5)communicating with users to gather suggestions or feedbacks to further improve the translation quality.
