A Report On The Translation Of The Gingham Dog Based On Computer-Aided Translation

Drama is an indispensable part of world literature.Compared with other literary forms,it has a unique dual representation,so drama translation also has its own unique characteristics.In recent years,the rapid development of computer-aided translation technology has greatly improved the efficiency of translation,and its application in literary texts has received more attention.Therefore,this thesis selects Langford Wilson's work "The Gingham Dog" as the research object,and uses computer-aided translation to improve the quality and efficiency of translation to complete translation practice.Unlike other literary works,the theatrical text is both reading text and performing text,so it is different from other texts in translation.Scripts used in stage performances cannot be explained by footnotes or other means.Translators should use translation strategies reasonably to express all the information conveyed by the original author in a limited time and space through dialogue and stage indicators.Therefore,we must pay attention to the performance of the drama language,the readability,and the translation of the indicators,so that the translation results can be more in line with the characteristics of the drama.This thesis first introduces Lanford Wilson and his work The Gingham Dog,and presents the process of this translation practice with the help of CAT software,Tmxmall.Then,the thesis gives an introduction to CAT and analyzes the feasibilities and limitations of CAT when it is applied to this drama translation practice.Moreover,the author points out the difficulties in this practice,such as the performability,the characteristics of the figures and the transformation between Chinese and Western cultures.Under the macro guidance of Peter Newmark's translation theory,this thesis illustrates how to tackle the difficulties by applying different translation methods to specific cases.Finally,a summary of this translation practice is obtained.
