Since Professor Wen Qiufang proposed the theory of Production-oriented Approach,Chinese scholars have actively explored the feasibility of its application in foreign language teaching,and the practical researches have proved that the application of Production-oriented Approach can promote the English teaching.English reading plays an important role in English education of general high school.However,guided by the traditional teaching model,the current situation of reading teaching is not optimistic: Students' interest in learning English reading is not high,and their reading level is low.There is not enough opportunity for students to make language output in class,which puts the teaching in the state of “learning separation”.So this study tries to apply the Production-oriented Approach to English reading teaching in senior high schools to stimulate students' learning motivation,develop students' language using ability and reading level,cultivate students' thinking ability,and provide some suggestions for teachers.Based on the Wen Qiufang's Production-oriented Approach,this study adopts some research instruments such as questionnaire,interview,and the test to explore the effectiveness of the Production-oriented Approach.The author conducts an experiment for one semester,and selects two parallel classes from grade one as the research subjects in senior high school in Dalian,Liaoning province.Class seven is the controlled class,and class eight is the experimental class.The Production-oriented Approach is applied in the experimental class,while those in the control class still have the English reading classes with the traditional method.Before the experiment,questionnaire and interview are used to investigate the experimental subjects' basic situation and the English reading teaching's current situation.After the experiment,the study tests the reading level of two classes respectively,aiming to discover the influence of Production-oriented Approach on students' English reading level by contrasting the changes of students' test score before and after the experiment.In the end,all the data are analyzed by statistical software SPSS22.0.The experimental result shows that applying Production-oriented Approach to senior high school English reading teaching can mobilize the students' reading motivation,cultivate their language application ability,develop their multiple thinking ability,and improve their reading level.Finally,the author puts forward some suggestions for the senior high school English teachers: English teachers can provide the means for cultivating students' reading motivation by using the multimedia,design the teaching activities scientifically to provide opportunities for students to apply language knowledge,innovate teaching contents to put up a platform for students to develop their multiple thinking ability,and use reading strategiescorrectly to provide a guarantee for students to develop reading level.
