Translation Practice Report Of Commissioned Development Contract For E-mall Platform Software System

The improvement of opening up in China gives more opportunity for cooperation between domestic and foreign enterprises.To safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of both sides,the demand for the conclusion and translation of relevant contracts is also increasing.However,accurate terms,compound sentences and rigorous structure in contracts,as well as lack of professional knowledge in translators pose challenges to the process of business activities.Therefore,based on the translation task of Commissioned Development Contract for E-mall platform Software System,this report mainly analyzes the text in accordance with communicative principle and optimal relevance and deals with difficulties in translation through different translation methods under the guidance of Relevance Theory.To improve cognitive context of readers,seek the optimal relevance,and achieve the communicative purpose,the author studies the translation methods of contract text from lexical level,syntactic level and discourse level by selecting typical cases from the translation task.1)At the lexical level,translation methods like literal translation and word-for-word translation have been summed up to make the translation of polysemy,technical terms and normalization more accurate,so that the optimal relevance is achieved through improving the cognitive context of target readers;2)At the syntactic level,translation techniques like addition,conversion,and separation and recombination are used to conform to the principle of English expressions,and the communicative intention has finally been realized;3)At the discourse level,addition and omission of conjunctions are adopted to achieve the logical and coherent texts so that the optimal contextual effect among target readers is obtained.Through this translation practice,the author has gained a better understanding of Relevance Theory.And hopefully,it can enrich the studies on Relevance Theory with its application in practice as well as providing some references for the future translation of commercial contract texts.
