This thesis is an experimental report. In the experiment,20 translation learners and 2 experienced translators are invited to edit some passages excerpted from Quantum Mechanics written by Jim Al-Khalili.The text has been pre-translated by Youdao machine translating before editing.Combining the translation competence components research results of the PACTE(Process in the Acquisition of Translation Competence and Evaluation)with the translation scoring rules of the American Translation Association(ATA),this thesis attempts to construct visualization models of translators' PE ability from five sub-competence include strategic sub-competence,knowledge about translation sub-competence,extra-linguistic sub-competence,bilingual sub-competence and instrumental sub-competence.By comparing the models of translation learners and experienced translators, this thesis tries to explore the methods to improve the post editing ability based on the analysis of the characteristics and differences of the two groups of participants,as well as giving some effective suggestions on the adjustment of the curriculum of translation programs.According to the experimental results, the following conclusions are drawn: 1)the learning experience of the target language and the professional knowledge background can help the translator to improve the quality of the translation to a certain extent;2)under the premise of reference resources, the positive influence of subject knowledge preparedness is not more obvious than that of the target language learning experience;3)the original machine translation truly limits the translator's performance to some extent;4)even in the absence of the lack of professional preparedness, translation learners still make little use of online resources effectively while editing.
