The Belt and Road Initiative provides an opportunity for the world to know about China. With the expansion in opening up,the cooperation in China has begun to expand from the firsttier cities to the central regions.Henan Province, with rich cultural heritage and numerous historical remains,is located in the central plains.English is the international language and is widely-accepted by different countries. The C–E translation of Henan's history can help the countries along the Belt and Road appreciate the cultural information of China. Thus, the cooperation in such fields as cultural exchanges and economic development between Henan Province and other countries will be facilitated.Henan History is a textbook introducing local history, which was published by Henan People's Publishing House in January 2000.It presents the development of Henan's historical course from ancient part to modern part. The textbook was compiled by experts from the Institute of Historical Research,Henan Academy of Social Sciences, which was organized by Henan Basic Education Teaching Research Office.Expecting to present the unique characteristics of Henan's ancient civilization, the translator selected the content introducing the history from the Huaxia tribe to the Han Dynasty as the source text of this translation practice, and chose Reiss' s text typology theory as guidance.Text types were analysed from language function, language dimension, text focus and translation purpose in Reiss' s text typology theory.According to the three text types proposed by Reiss, the source text belongs to informative text.Based on the characteristics of informative text, the translator firstly summarized two requirements for the translation of historical texts, namely, reproducing information effectively and presenting explicit cohesion and then explored the C–E translation methods and techniques of historical texts from these two perspectives. The purpose of this research is to provide a reference for scholars who study the translation of historical texts in the future and promote the external exchanges of Henan's culture.
