To date, global issues like climate warming, terrorism, population explosion and food safety require the cooperation of all countries.Under this background, the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)was launched by President Xi in 2013,aiming at strengthening and deepening the cooperation and injecting vitality into the global economic growth.BRI is a long-term strategy of China and its sustainable development cannot hold without support and understanding from other nations.Effective external cultural communication is a powerful and effective way to bring full bilateral recognization and thus helpful in constructing a positive nation image. Therefore, cultural communication plays an important role in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. The analysis of Cultural communication is becoming an increasingly hot topic in the field of BRI study. This thesis reviews and analyzes relevant literature in the following three aspects: the impact of cultural difference on trade, the impact of cultural communication on trade, and the spread of Chinese culture under the "Belt and Road" initiative background.Based on Theory of Preference Similarity,Hofstede's Value Theory, and Theory of Culture Identity, this paper explores the influence mechanism of cultural communication on bilateral export trade and makes the following assumptions: 1)the existence of Confucius Institutes can promote bilateral export trade;2)The number of Confucius Institutes and the export trade are positively related 3)the number of overseas students in China and export are positively relatedThis thesis selects numbers of Confucius Institutes and overseas students in China as proxy variables for cultural communication.Based on the extended gravity model, five linear regression model are established to test the influence of the number of Confucius Institutes and the number of overseas students in China on bilateral export. The conclusions of this article are: 1)The existence of the Confucius Institute has significantly promoted the export trade between China and the countries along the “Belt and Road”;but the increase in the number of Confucius Institutes has a weak correlation with the export volume.2)The increase in the number of overseas students in China will promote the export volume between China and the countries where overseas students come from. With the expectation of a more effective external cultural communication status, this thesis makes corresponding practical recommendations, such as cultural communication methods enrichment, intercultural communication talents cultivation and cultural communication mechanism improvement.
