In today's era of cultural integration,literary translation is a window of communication between different cultures.Among the categories of literary translation,story translation is one of the convenient ways to understand foreign cultures.This paper is a report on the E-C translation of The Boat,which is written by an Australian writer,Glen Phillips.In this paper,the translator firstly introduces the translation background and the source text information,and describes the whole translation process in detail.Secondly,under the guidance of translation theory“Transmitting Spirit and Conveying Ideas”,the translator analyzes several typical translation cases in terms of the description of characters,the description of environment and the words with Australian characteristics by using literal translation,liberal translation and amplification,and explains the solutions to the difficulties encountered in the process of dealing with the choosing of word meanings and long sentences.Thirdly,the translator summarizes the achievements,limitations and suggestions of this translation practice in order to contribute to literary translation.
