As an important part of language activity, translation is the transformation of twolanguage signals and it is a process of spreading multi-culture. With the rapid developmentof economy and politic, people around the world pay more attention to the culturalcommunication. A plenty of foreign literature works are being introduced to China, so thetranslation of literature attracts more and more translators’ attention. In fact, thetranslation of literature promotes literary work’s spread and communication. Meanwhile, itpushes the globalization of culture. Novels show their value and social meaning by tellingthe original stories. This translation report talks about the strategies and ways of transitionby illustrating translation examples to know different styles of foreign literature works,foreign culture and the character of novel’s translation. At the same time, it will be helpfulto improve the author’s literature cultivation and accumulate experience, which provides astrong foundation for future translation.This is a translation report for the story Signs, which was written by the famousAmerican novelist Tracy Daugherty. It was published at The Hopkins Review by The JohnsHopkins University Press in2013. On the basis of knowing the character of novel’stranslation, the writer’s style and the whole story’s stone, the author needs to find propeltranslation strategies following the principal of reappear the story’s style. The theme of thenovel is new and it has clear and simple relationship between the characters. It describesthe character of people relying on the dialogue of characters and description of portraits,psychological and details. Its language is simple but impressive and vivid.Based on the translation of story Signs, the report is made up of four chapters.Chapter One is an introduction to the translation project, including analysis made to thesource text and the significance of translating the story. Chapter Two is the introduction tothe source text, preparations and the description of the translation process, and translationmethods adopted. Chapter Three is the analysis of examples. It mainly focuses on people’stone, dirty words’ translation and the translation of dialogue. Chapter Four summarizes reflections on the translation and suggestions for future improvements.
