Eco-translatology has been paid more and more attention to by scholars at home and abroad in recent years. It adopts Darwin's idea of theory of evolution in the west, and the ancient ecological wisdom in China, which provides a new research perspective to give a description and explanation of translation essence, translation principle, translation methods, translation processes, and so on.By the text analysis research method, this thesis takes Nicky Harman's English version of Happy Dreams as the object of the research, and works on a detailed description and analysis based on Adaptation and Selection from the perspective of Eco-translatology,which mainly focuses on the three aspects: how the translator makes a selective adaptation to the internal and external translational eco-environment of Happy Dreams;how the translator makes a selective and adaptive transformation on the basis of her selective adaptation to the translational eco-environment of the source language and the target one;how the translation is evaluated properly from “multi-dimensional transformation”,“reader feedback” and “translator's quality”.The study found that from the perspective of translator's selective adaptation to the translational eco-environment,Nicky Harman adapts to the internal and the external translational eco-environment of Happy Dreams with her excellent translation ability and strong interest. From the perspective of translator's adaptive selection to the translational eco-environment,Nicky Harman makes an adaptive and selective transformation from linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. From linguistic dimension, the translator tends to retain the language style and the text structure of the source language, and the expression habits and grammatical rules of the target language. From cultural dimension, the translator selects literal translation to reappear Chinese-specific idioms,Shaanxi-specific customs as well as dialects, and free translation as well as literal translation to adapt to the acceptance of the target readers. From communicative dimension, the translator uses addition, omission and rewriting to achieve the communicative intent of the source language. From the perspective of evaluation of selection and adaptation of the translation, the author evaluates the English version of Happy Dreams from “multi-dimensional transformation”,“reader feedback” and “translator's quality”.It can be seen that Nicky Harman's English version of Happy Dreams reaches a relatively high degree of holistic adaptation.According to the detailed analysis, this thesis provides a new theoretical perspective for the study of Nicky Harman's English version of Happy Dreams and enriches the exploration of C-E translation of Chinese contemporary literary works.
