As a gem of Chinese culture,Chinese calligraphy represents the core of Chinese art because of its sound writing system, diverse writing styles, and unique writing skills.Meanwhile, for the development of Chinese calligraphy, its domestic inheritance and continuous intercultural communication are both of great significance. The video material in this report is a lecture byProf.Ren Ping in 2016,called The Humanistic Interpretation of Calligraphy. It introduces the art of writing and humanistic interpretation of Chinese calligraphy from multiple aspects such as the origin of Chinese calligraphy, the history of the four treasures of the study and the evolution of calligraphic styles, revealing cultural elements of Chinese calligraphy.Chinese in the video is typically calligraphy-themed with feasibility of study since various dimensions of calligraphy culture are included. This report is composed on the basis of the author's simulated consecutive interpreting of the lecture video.Under the framework of the Interpretive Theory,it is divided into four chapters:introduction, task preparations, difficulties and solutions and conclusion, the most important of which is the analysis of difficulties and solution measures. After comprehensive and serious study of the interpreting examples in the given video with the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, the author summarizes four difficulties:historical knowledge and culture-bound words,redundancy,run-on sentences and logical confusion and find corresponding solutions such as prediction, amplification, omission and simplification and so on,wishing that the findings--calligraphy-themed interpreting strategies and C-E translations of calligraphy terms—can contribute to future interpreting work in this field.
