High school is a critical period for physiological and psychological development.High school students are faced with multiple pressures such as learning,interpersonal relationship and adaptation.Excessive pressure cause serious psychological problems in high school students.Based on the theory of stress and resource conservation theory,this study explored the relationship between negative life events on the mental health and the mediating role of self-acceptance among high school students.In addition,according to the results,we carried out an intervention study.In the first study,a sample of 788 high school students were assessed with adolescent life events scale,self-acceptance questionnaire,life satisfaction scale and anxiety&depression scale.Based on the first study,in the second study,a sample of 24 students who has high negative life events scores and low level of self-acceptance were selected from study one.Those students were randomly assigned the experimental group and the control group.Experimental group of 12 high school students took in the self-acceptance group counseling intervention,while the control group did not contact with the related content.The results are as follows:1)There are significant gender differences in the self-acceptance,life satisfaction and internalizing problems,the self-acceptance level and life satisfaction of boys are higher than that of girls,and the score of internalizing problems is lower than that of girls;there are no differences in gender,grade,subject selection,and region on the negative life events,but there are significant differences in only child,non-only child have higher scores on the negative life events than the only child;there was no difference in grade,only child,region of origin on self-acceptance,life satisfaction and internalizing problems.2)There are significant correlations between the negative life events,self-acceptance,life satisfaction and internalizing problems of high school students,the negative life events can negatively predict life satisfaction,positively predict internalizing problems,self-acceptance has a significant positive effect on life satisfaction and a significant negative effect on internalizing problems.3)Self-acceptance plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between the stressful life events and mental health among high school students.Specifically:Self-acceptance plays a partial mediating role between negative life events and the life satisfaction;self-acceptance plays a partial mediating role between the negative life events and internalizing problems.4)Group counseling on self-acceptance for high school students with higher scores of the negative life events and lower scores of self-acceptance can help them improve their self-acceptance level and reducing internalizing problems.
