A Sidecar Named Desire: Great Writers and the Booze That Stirred Them is written by Greg Clarke and Monte Beauchamp,and published by Dey Street Books on November 13,2018.The original text is the fifth chapter,and the sixth chapter of this book.The book mainly recounts the origin,development process and production methods of wine,beer,whisky,gin,vodka,absinthe,medical & tequila,rum,but more about the anecdotes of many writers or historical celebrities.The author of this report is responsible for the translation of the last four chapters of vodka,absinthe,mescal & tequila,and rum.This report is a review and summary of the translation work of vodka and absinthe these two chapters.Under the guidance of the principle of "faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance",25 typical examples are selected from the original text as translation analysis cases.According to text typology of Katharina Reiss,the original text may classified as the Informative type whose linguistic function is to convey the message.The author of this report takes "faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance" as translation standard and test standard when translating the original text.When it comes to alcohol,The author of this report pays more attention to accurately convey the original content and provide the target readers with the required information.When it comes to the difference of Chinese and foreign cultures,the task of the author of this report is to help the target readers remove obstacles and provide smooth and fluent translated text for them.The words used in the original text are not only precise,but also changeable.The author of this report also tries to use different words as much as possible in order to fit the language style of the original text.Under the translating and test standard of "faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance",the author of this report tries to make the translated text convey the same effect of the original text conveys not only in general but also in details.This report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction of translation project,including the background and significance of translation project.The second part is about original text analysis,which mainly including the introduction of the author of the original text,the introduction of the content of the original text.The third part mainly talks about the translation theory of “faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance”,as well as the introduction of the genre and language feature of the original text.In the forth part,the author selected 25 typical examples to illustrate faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance.The last part is a conclusion about this translation project,including the enlightenment and lessons gained from this translation project,as well as some unsolved problems.
