The study aims at exploring the effect of mind map on primary school students'English reading comprehension by using mind map as a teaching tool.The study makes up for the lack of research on the application of mind map in primary school English reading class and on its effect on primary school students' English reading comprehension,which provides theoretical support for teachers to use mind map to assist English reading teaching.Moreover,it provides teaching reference for front-line teachers with practical cases of mind mapThe study chooses 100 Grade 5 students from a primary school in Xuzhou,Jiangsu Province as the research objects.They are from 2 paralleled classes,and all taught by the author.50 students of them belong to the experimental group and the other 50 students are in the control group.The experiment lasts for a semester.The purpose is to answer the following two research questions:1.Does the application of mind map in English reading teaching affect students'reading comprehension performance?If so,what kind of correlation does the effect have?2.How do students respond to the application of mind map?Before the experiment,a reading comprehension test is carried out in the two classes,and the data analysis confirms that there is no significant difference between them before the experiment.In the experimental class,the author uses mind map to teach English reading during the experiment,and also encourages students to do reading comprehension practice by using mind maps.Meanwhile,the author uses multiple evaluations to help students improve their mind map drawing skills.In the control class,the traditional reading teaching method is still used.At the end of the experiment,the students of the two classes are tested again to explore the effect of mind map on students' English reading comprehension.In the experimental class,questionnaires are distributed and individual interviews are conducted.Based on the results of the questionnaire and interviews,students' opinions and feedback on the application of mind map are analyzedThe findings of the study are as follows:1.The application of mind map can improve primary school students' English reading performance as well as narrow the gap between students.2.The application of mind map can improve primary school students' interest in English reading,and it shows high acceptance by students.Therefore,the author suggests that primary school teachers could use mind map to help students improve their English reading comprehension ability.
