The source text of this translation report was chosen from 2017 Best American Short Stories(BASS)---Gabe Dove and Famous Actor. The two short stories chosen by the author of this report are both stream-of-consciousness fictions narrated from the perspective of first person. In terms of the content,Gabe Dove shows the protagonist's complex and conflicting mind by weaving monologue, memories and dreams together while Famous Actor conveys a strong irony through the sharp contrast between the external words of the character and her inner activities. From the aspect of linguistic form, there appears many foregrounded features such as grammatical deviation, semantic deviation and deviation of register, which aims to show the characters'complex and delicate psychological activities. When discussing the application of literary stylistics in fictional translation,Shen Dan put forward the concept of "deceptive equivalence".This is because translators turn blind eyes to foregrounded language which is closely related to the thematic significance and aesthetic value of literary works, and only convey "paraphrasable material content".In the two selected short stories, foregrounding, such as grammatical deviation and register deviation, are here and there. The foregrounded language can not only attract readers' interest in the story, but also aim to achieve certain thematic significance and artistic effect.By means of stylistic analysis approach, the author of this report reproduced the foregrounded language conducive to convey thematic significance in translated text, avoiding "deceptive equivalence".In this report, the author of this report adopts the foregrounding classification of Leech and Short, namely, quantitative foregrounding and qualitative foregrounding.According to the characteristics of the source text, the quantitative perspective mainly discusses repetition and parallelism, while the qualitative perspective mainly involves four aspects:grammatical deviation, lexical deviation, semantic deviation and register deviation. On the basis of a comprehensive understanding of the content and emotion of the original text, she adopted a variety of translation methods such as literal translation, liberal translation, and zero translation, hoping to reproduce the stylistic characteristics and thematic significance of the original text. This report shows a close relation between literary stylistics and literary translation, and confirms the usefulness of stylistic approach to fictional translation. It also helps the author of this report become more interested in the translation of novels, and improves her translation competence. At last it also hopes to introduce excellent foreign literary works and enhance mutual learning,so as to promote the prosperity and development of short stories in China.
