Macintyre's Inheritance And Development Of Aristotle's Concept Of Virtue

McIntyre was a famous contemporary ethicist and a representative of contemporary western virtue ethics.His well-known academic contribution was to once again promote the revival of Aristotelian philosophy.The concept of virtue is the core concept of virtue ethics.McIntyre's concept of virtue is developed on the basis of inheriting Aristotle's concept of virtue.The main aspects of inheritance and development are embodied in practice,teleology and community.The first part of this paper mainly introduces the background of McIntyre's inheritance and development of Aristotle's concept of virtue.The realistic background is that the prevalence of emotivism leads to the loss of virtue,the historical background is that the enlightenment's failure to argue for moral rationality leads to the rise of relativism,and the theoretical background is the diversified understanding of virtue concept.The second part analyzes Aristotle's concept of virtue from the perspective of practice,happiness and community.Aristotle's virtue needs the guidance of practical wisdom and is generated in practice,which is a necessary condition for the construction of city-state and also conducive to the realization of happiness.The third part is the center of the whole text,focusing on McIntyre's inheritance and development of Aristotle's concept of virtue "change" and "no change".McIntyre's concept of virtue revolves around three basic concepts:practice,narrative self and tradition.The fourth part analyzes the theoretical significance of McIntyre's inheritance and development of Aristotle's concept of virtue in order to provide a possible reflection on McIntyre's reconstruction of Aristotle's concept of virtue.
