Since the birth of photography in the mid-19 th century, the city has been one of the subjects photographed by photographers.By sorting out the development history of urban photography, this topic proposes to analyze the visual turn of urban photography in this period from the perspective of urban photography in the 1960 s in the west, starting with the theories and concepts of many different subjects, such as literature, philosophy, history, anthropology, sociology, etc. This paper summarizes the subjective visual turn of urban photography in the 1960 s in the west, and probes into its breakthrough influence on the form and Ideological Expression of contemporary photography.Firstly, the background of different stages of urban photography is analyzed in the historical context, combining with social movement and cultural thoughts. Then from the exploration of "personal consciousness",the daily nature of the public social situation, the diversity of viewing ways, and the meaning of symbols in expression, narration and picture editing, and the readability of photos, the key elements of the aesthetic characteristics and visual language of urban photography in the 1960 s in the West and the subjective visual turn of urban photography in China are obtained Finally, the paper evaluates the future development direction and trend of urban photography in China by combining the current situation of China's social development and the multi-dimensional development factors of urban photography. This paper holds that in the 1960 s,urban photography did not adhere to the traditional form of expression, and it separated the choice of perspective from the limitations of events. And in a seemingly random but logical way of composition, the details of the composition of the picture are deliberately controlled,so that the overall structure and the local constitute a complex expression. In addition,in the 1960 s,urban photography emphasized the view of viewing the world from the inside out,so that the definition of image language was replaced by the authenticity of each photographer's own experience. From this,it can be concluded that in the 1960 s,urban photography showed a subjective tendency in the visual transformation, and had an impact on the development direction of contemporary photography art,and established a far-reaching position.
