A Report On Interpreting For Shandong-Netherland Technology Matchmaking Conference Of Sustainable Utilization Of Manure

This report is based on a consecutive interpreting by the author in Shandong-Netherland Technology Matchmaking Conference of Sustainable Utilization of Manure in Agriculture.It reports on the whole process of the task,including pre-task preparation,task process and reflection.In the interpreting task,the author served as an interpreter for both sides in technology exchanges.This was a technology interpreting task since its topics concerned professional technologies in the field of animal husbandry.The interpreting task was challengeable because the interpreter needed to deal with a large flow of specific-domain information.Specific obstacles include unclear information,excessive information,disordered information,tricky culture-loaded words,multiple enumerated terms and interpretation of acronyms.An interpretation theory is often an insightful guidance for problems occurred in an interpreting task.For instance,Interpretive Theory,proposed by Danica Seleskovitch,believes that the aim of an interpretation or a translation task is to convey the idea or the sense carried by language rather than merely the language form itself.Thus,interpretation is viewed as a process of deverbalizing the sense of discourse behind linguistic form and expressing it in proper target language.Under the guidance of Interpretive Theory,the author resorted to the approach of case analysis to analyze the above-mentioned problems and then put forward corresponding interpreting methods,such as supplement,generalization,reorganization,conversion,simplification and parrot repetition.The present report has pointed out the significance of Interpretive Theory for this interpreting practice,and by extension,for interpreting tasks of technology exchanges as a whole,that is,to accurately deliver source information and achieve the sense and emotional equivalence between source and target language.The importance of Interpretive Theory is well attested in this report,which aims to help interpreters to deepen the understanding of this theory and apply it in technology interpreting.This theory is a guide to delivering the accurate information in future interpreting.Moreover,bilingual competence,knowledge reserve,and mental quality are all among necessary indicators of the success of interpreting tasks.
