As the Internet and multimedia technologies advance by leaps and bounds, there is a growing demand for all kinds of information in today's society. What cannot be ignored is that, instead of booming studies on some other types of interpreting practice, the development of emerging interview program interpretation is relatively lagging behind with a small number of researches. The report chose the Voices in Leadership,a program produced by Harvard T.H.Chan School of Public Health,to conduct consecutive interpreting for the former Vermont governor Peter Shumlin in his interview entitled "Fixing the Health Care System from Within".The interview starts with Shumlin's achievements during his tenure and deals with such issues in public service as the drug addiction regulation, medical insurance system and public health service. On the basis of the research of domestic and foreign scholars, the interpreter summarizes the difficulties in the consecutive interview interpreting through simulated practice.Based on the three main viewpoints of Interpretative Theory(interpreting is a communicative act,the necessity of cognitive complement and the hypothesis of deverbalization),this paper explores the effective strategies of interview consecutive interpreting. It proposes the strategies of simplification, omission and paraphrase to move information redundancy, ambiguity maintenance and semantic explicitation to cope with the speaker's ambiguous expressions, and information reformulation during the process of deverbalization and cognitive complement to deal with the logical confusion of the source language.By analyzing the typical problems in interview interpreting, this report aims to explore the feasibility of Interpretation Theory in guiding the English-Chinese interview interpreting. It's hoped to provide strategies for interpreters who may encounter similar problems in the future and improve their quality of consecutive interpreting.
