In the modern times,with the invention of mechanized cigarette makers,western countries have dumped cigarettes to China in a frantic manner.These products have low prices and good quality,which has quickly crushed our tobacco industry and monopolized the domestic tobacco market.But on the other hand,these foreign companies have also promoted the modernization of China's tobacco industry and laid the foundation for China to become an industrial power today.Among them,British American Tobacco is the representative.This article takes the development track of British American Tobacco's tobacco labels as the research object,analyzes representative images,and refers to the development of political,economic,cultural,and artistic movements.The development and changes of the target are sorted out,and the role of the cigarette label as a carrier of image presentation and brand culture dissemination is restored to play a role in the development of modern design history in China.In the half century of Anglo-American Tobacco Company in China(1902-1952),it established a huge advertising department,hired excellent Chinese and Western painters and designers,and introduced a large number of advanced Western design concepts into China.At the same time,nearly a thousand cigarette brands were launched,with different themes and design styles for various brands,which brought us a rich visual cultural feast.At the same time,the construction of visual symbols of cigarette labels also reflects the development of the visual culture of the Republic of China.This article will start from the perspective of design,to sort out the history and background of British American Tobacco's cigarette labels in China.By examining its historical data,it analyzes the characteristics of the British American Tobacco label in China.From the perspective of visual design,analyze its graphic characteristics,graphic source and art form,font and color.In-depth study of its aesthetic value and artistic characteristics,as well as the historical characteristics of the era.This concludes the diversity and coordination of the relationship between the East and the West,tradition and fashion,politics and commerce in the advertising of British American Tobacco.
