This translation report,from the perspective of Eugene Nida’s the functional equivalence theory,made a discussion of the process and the tactic of psychological books with Calming the Waters at Work: How to Deal with Workplace Conflicts as the translation material.This book has divided conflicts into five distinguishable stages: exclusion,confrontation,formation of factions,escalation and explosion,and alienation,and each stage is explained by specific cases.This book contains a large number of psychological vocabularies,and cites figures and tables many times.These characteristics not only increase the difficulty of the translation process,but also increase the interest of the translation process,making this translation practice a comprehensive translation project integrating English-Chinese translation and graphic editing.The source language is English and the target language is Chinese.There are inherent differences between the two languages.Therefore,in the process of translation,it is necessary to consider how to achieve functional equivalence when the form of the language is not equivalent,so that the target language readers feel the same as the original readers.This report,guided by functional equivalence theory,adopts different translation techniques and strategies to solve the problems encountered in translation practice.This translation practice not only enriches the application of Nida’s functional equivalence theory in the field of psycho-text translation,but also provides material for the later study of psycho-text.
