As a famous literary theory,"defamiliarization" was first put forward by Viktor Shklovsky, the main representative of Russian formalism, aiming to break the habitual thinking through form innovation, thus increasing the difficulty of artistic feeling and the extension of artistic aesthetic time. The development of the theory is not confined to a specific category. The theory of "defamiliarization" has a significant effect in the field of literature, and also stands out in other fields of design.Book design gradually as an independent modeling design category or system of ideas exist, obviously different from the concept of binding. The overa ll concept of book design requires designers not to stick to the innovation of binding and typesetting, but to upgrade and change the way of design thinking. At present, some designers use inertial design thinking and fixed design procedures, which to some extent prevent Chinese book design from reaching new heights. The "design habit" makes the presentation of books always within the cognitive range familiar to readers, and it is difficult to jump out of the automatic visual perception system of readers.Paper studies the basic concept and the form defamiliarization theory, the overall design concept will be introduced to the theory of defamiliarization books, through the study of literature, drama stage of starting point and the use of "defamiliarization" thinking forms, analogy used in other art design categories defamiliarization instance of the way of thinking and analysis of defamiliarization theory in practice guidance books design feasibility and the effect of "stranger",combined with the author's creative practice, further illustrate defamiliarization books design thinking, design way can add fresh and readability of books, the books design provides a new way of thinking about the future.
