As a Chinese learner from Thailand,the writer has great interests in state adjectives of Chinese.The rules of grammar,semantics and pragmatics of state adjectives may be familiar to Chinese native speakers,but are a big challenge for Thai students learning Chinese.Therefore,this paper analyzes the problems Thai students have when learning Chinese state adjectives and explores effective teaching methods to overcome the most common types of errors,so as to improve the efficiency of Thai students learning Chinese state adjectives.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter describes the purpose,main ideas,methods and theoretical basis of the research and comments on the current research status of related issues in the academic literature.The second chapter serves as a framework for designing a questionnaire aimed at analyzing how Thai students learn and use Chinese state adjectives.To build this framework,we review academically identified and acknowledged aspects relating to Chinese state adj ectives;specifically,their demarcation,categorization,syntactic features,and semantic features.And we make a comparison of state adjectives between Chinese and Thai language.It forms the basic framework of the designing questionnaire.The third chapter describes a survey of the acquisition of state adjectives among Thai students.It starts with the research design,followed by the implementation of the questionnaire and the data analysis.Then,based on the survey results,we statistically analyze the learning and use of Chinese status adjectives by Thai students.The fourth chapter describes the error types Thai students make in using state adjectives,as well as their causes.The analysis focuses specifically on form,syntactic,semantic and pragmatic aspects.The main causes of errors involve negative transfer of native language knowledge,generalization of the target language rules,and sub-optimal learning strategies,teaching methods and learning materials,learners' personal factors,the imperfection of teaching books,and the impacts of cultural background.The fifth chapter presents the learning and teaching suggestions regarding Chinese state adjectives for Thai students.We believe that in the process of learning Chinese state adjectives,Thai students should avoid the negative influence of the "mother tongue translation method",memorize state adjectives systematically and effectively,and improve their independent learning ability.In terms of teaching suggestions,we advocate to teach students according to their aptitude,improve teaching methods,make proper use of Sino-Thai comparisons,arrange knowledge points and exercises in textbooks,and create an environment for target language practice.
