With the rapid development of economy and the improvement of people's living standard,people's demand for diamonds and other luxury goods is growing.China became the second largest diamond consumer market as early as 2009.At the same time,more and more people need to know the latest news of the diamond industry for various reasons,so thediamondloupe.com was born as a website carrying all the important news of the diamond industry,whose source language is English.But facing the huge market in China,the translation of thediamondloupe.com is essential.In this thesis,over 20 articles from thediamondloupe.com are selected as the research objects,and the translation is conducted under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory,aiming to improve the quality of translation,show more accurate and clear industry trends,and provide reference for similar translation.This thesis consists of four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of the whole thesis,which briefly introduces the background of the translation project,the characteristics of the original text and the significance of the project.The second chapter describes the translation process,with emphasis on the post-translation modification.Chapter three reviews Newmark's communicative translation theory,and verifies the feasibility of this theory in guiding the practice of translation from three aspects: text type,target readers and translation purpose.The fourth part is the case analysis under the guidance of communicative translation theory,which is mainly carried out from the two aspects: translation of titles and the body to explore the translation methods and techniques of diamond news.The difficulty of the translation practice is how to make the target readers receive the same information as the source readers and achieve the communicative purpose.Thus,under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory,zero translation,transliteration,literal translation and free translation are adopted in the translation of proper nouns,abbreviations and terms;five translation techniques of amplification,omission,division,inversion and voice change are analyzed in detail in the translation of titles and long and difficult sentences.Finally,the thesis summarizes and reflects on the translation practice of diamond news,hoping that the thesis can provide reference for news translation of similar topics.
