As a collection of different essays discussing humanistic thoughts,You the Freedom,is one of the most famous works of Chinese scholar Xiong Peiyun.Xiong Peiyun expounds his reflection towards some modern humanistic concepts through different social phenomena around ordinary people. The English version of this book has not yet been published. The translation of the book will help readers from English-speaking countries know this book, and provide a new perspective of understanding towards humanistic thoughts for this group of readers.Five essays are excerpted from You the Freedom as the source text, and Vermeer's Skopos Theory is selected as the guiding theory of translation in this report. The author summarizes the main content and language features of the source text and introduces the basic preparation before translation, the understanding process and expressing process during translation and the proofreading process after translation. The translation methods and techniques like literal translation, free translation,abstract-concrete shift, substitution with reference, ellipsis, combination, reorganization, transfer of voices and transfer of subjects are adopted during the detailed analysis of examples at lexical and syntactic levels respectively, which based on the three principles(skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule)of Skopos Theory,in order to help readers from English-speaking countries to know the source text and reach the communicative purpose. Finally, the author briefly states his finding that the Skopos Theory is suitable to be the guiding theory when translating You the Freedom and the disadvantages that lack of background knowledge of humanistic science, which causes the inefficiency during translation and limited vocabularies that fail to differentiate the meticulous meaning of some specific words in this translation practice, hoping they contribute to improving the author's translation skill. The principles which suitable for the translation of You the Freedom are summarized:(1)when dealing with translation at lexical level, translators should fully use flexibility under the premise of meeting the semantic faithfulness and English's expressing and cultural habits;(2)when dealing with translation at syntactic level, translators should make appropriate supplementation of functional conjunctions and reorganization of words to achieve coherence;expecting that they can be provided as references when translating similar type of text.
