A patent abstract is a brief summary of the content of an invention or utility model specification. With the increase in the number of patent applications, the demand for English translation of patent abstracts is growing stronger, and the importance of its translation is self-evident.This thesis discusses the translation project that the author was responsible for during her internship at Hebei Chuangke Network Technology Co.,Ltd.The author selected the most representative texts of about 10,000 words from the all translation practice texts about 300,000 words as materials for this practice report. In practice, the author found that providing full text information to the target audience is the major function of patent abstracts. Therefore, under the guidance of the Skopos theory, the author tries to provide some translation methods and techniques to assist translation from the perspective of lexis and syntax. At the lexical level, literal translation, free translation and conversion combined with examples are adopted to analyze how to determine technical terms. At the syntactic level, linear translation, inversion, voice change and combination are used to deal with the logical relations in long and difficult sentences. The author hopes that this report can provide some ideas for the translation of patent abstracts.
